LaMarr Franklin

LaMarr Franklin was born on September 29, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was baptized at St. Francis Catholic Church, establishing the strong foundation of faith that guided his life. A proud graduate of Messmer High School, he carried discipline, courage, and determination into every chapter of his journey - including his honorable service as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Faith and family were the anchors of LaMarr's life. In 1980, he married the love of his life, Lynda J. Smith, and together they built a legacy rooted in love, service, and community until her passing in 2024. Together, they lovingly raised their two children, Shannon Sr. and Monique, instilling in them the values of faith, service, and perseverance. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynda, and his cherished son, Shannon Sr.

LaMarr was a pillar in Milwaukee, dedicating his life to uplifting others. He served and led across numerous organizations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs, Northcott Neighborhood House, YMCA Black Achievers, and the MLK Economic Development Corporation. Whether mentoring youth, championing economic empowerment, or supporting arts and cultural initiatives, his commitment to strengthening the community never wavered.

Above all, LaMarr believed in lifting others as he climbed. His life was a testament to faith in action, servant leadership, and deep love for family and community.

He departed this life on February 11, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. His legacy lives on through his daughter, Monique (James) Graham, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family, and the countless lives he touched.

Visitation will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 2207 North 2nd Street, Milwaukee, WI 53212, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions in support of his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's continuing education, honoring LaMarr's enduring belief in the power and importance of education. Gifts may be directed to his daughter, Monique Graham.
