Violet LaMoine Harrison of Lubbock passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the age of 82. She was born in Stamford, TX on December 27, 1941 to C.E. and Violet Rappe. She married Curtis Harrison on July 12, 1957 at the age of 15 in a sunrise wedding in Lubbock.
LaMoine was the perfect partner for Curtis as they heard God’s calling and went through Sunset School of Preaching from 1969-1972. In December of 1972 the Harrison family began their mission work in Papua New Guinea. In 1978 Curtis at the age of 41 was stricken with a spinal cord tumor that caused him to be completely paralyzed. LaMoine believed in and encouraged Curtis through the difficult rehabilitation, and he was able to use forearm crutches and returned to Papua New Guinea in the summer of 1979. They stayed for another 6 years and returned to Lubbock in 1985 after spending 13 years in the mission field. The foundation they helped lay as a team resulted in a strong church that still exists today.
Curtis became the student coordinator at Sunset School of Preaching and LaMoine began her career as the front desk receptionist at Sunset Church of Christ. She proudly served as the Go To person at Sunset for 34 years and retired in 2021.
Survivors include three daughters Cindy Wilkinson (Mark) of Lubbock, LaNell Harrison of Lubbock, LaCresha Longwell (Ron) of Shelbyville, TN and one good looking son LaDell Harrison (Sandra) of Abilene. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Don Rappe of Arlington and Delaine Rappe of Abernathy.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30p.m. Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway. The service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Sunset Church of Christ. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
The family suggests memorials to be given to Sunset International Bible Institute, https://www.sunset.bible/give-now
