Lance Duncan Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lance Dorman Duncan "Lance" on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the age of 79 in Monticello, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred William Duncan Sr., and his mother, Elizabeth Brison Duncan, both of Monticello, Fla.; sister, Beckie Cummings of Auburndale, Fla.; brother, Alfred William Duncan Jr. of Monticello, Fla; nephew, Russell Duncan of Monticello, Fla.; and daughter, Ruby Elizabeth Lynch of Monticello, Fla.
Lance is survived by his loving wife, Conella Duncan (Boland) of Monticello, Fla; sister, Sena Duncan of Monticello, Fla.; daughter, Amy Casteel (Che') of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughter, Kim Garner (Kyle) of St. Marks, Fla.; daughter, Hanna Freedman (Robby) of Oviedo, Fla.; daughter, Rachel Duncan of Monticello, Fla.; granddaughter, Samantha Henderson of Tallahassee, Fla.; grandson, Jason Henderson (Nickole) of Quitman, Ga.; granddaughter, Ramsey Brown (CJ) of Crawfordville, Fla.; grandson, Skyler Garner of Tallahassee, Fla.; grandson, William Shelley (Victoria) of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandson, Ryan Freedman of Oviedo, Fla.; grandson, Jeremy Freedman of Oviedo, Fla.; granddaughter, Lacy Baker of Monticello, Fla.; grandson, Harlan Bach of Monticello, Fla.; grandson, Dayton "DJ" Baker of Monticello, Fla.; grandson, Axel Baker of Monticello, Fla.; great grandson, Josh Moore of Quitman, Ga.; great grandson, Christian Moore of Quitman, Ga.; great granddaughter, Charlotte Taylor of St. Augustine, Fla.; great grandson, Ben Taylor of St, Augustine, Fla.; great grandson, Jackson Shelley of St. Augustine, Fla.; great granddaughter, Wrenley Brown of Crawfordville, Fla.; great grandson, Jonah Shelley of St. Augustine, Fla.; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Lance was born on April 27, 1945, in Monticello, Fla. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. In his younger years, he worked for the Coca Cola company as a delivery driver and as a security manager at the Capri Lounge in Monticello, Fla. He also worked for Broadleaf Trucking, owned and operated the Qwik Lube auto shop in Monticello, Fla., and was a land manager for Roger Champion. After retirement, Lance continued sharing his knowledge and skills, and served as a valued employee at ACE Hardware in Tallahassee, Fla.
Lance was a true Renaissance man and had many hobbies throughout his life, including a passion for reading. He could be found most evenings immersed in a Louis L'Amour novel. He loved music of all genres, and "The Eagles" were his all-time favorite band. He enjoyed poetry and playing his acoustic guitars. He was a history buff, and he loved tending to his beautiful plants and flowers. He was a very talented woodworker, and he enjoyed collecting antiques.
Lance had an impressive number of cherished lifelong friends, and he never met a stranger. When he was able, he enjoyed nature, fishing, taking road trips with Conella and the grandkids, and visiting the mountains to observe the changing of the leaves. Lance enjoyed the simple things in life, and he held his large family dear. Lance will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date in Monticello, Fla.
