LANCE KASPARIAN Obituary

KASPARIAN, Lance Lance Kasparian, of Bradford, formerly Salem, passed away on March 27, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 69. Born and raised in Bradford, he was the son of the late Harry and Beulah (Parvanian) Kasparian. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he earned a Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Building Science. Lance's lifelong interest in architectural history led him to further his studies at The Architectural Association in London and to earn a Master of Arts in Historic Preservation Studies from Boston University. These years of study paved the way for a long and fulfilling career with the National Park Service, where he stewarded the architectural preservation of some of Boston's most cherished landmarks. Lance took deep professional pride in his work at the Bunker Hill and Dorchester Heights Monuments, as well as the Old North Church, treating each site with meticulous care and respect. This same appreciation for history guided his role as a devoted family historian. Lance continued the genealogical work begun by his father, ensuring the Kasparian and Parvanian legacies were preserved for the generations to come. His most significant commitment was always to his family. Following the passing of his father, Lance stepped forward to care for his mother with a level of devotion that truly defined him. He was a steady presence for her, providing comfort and support throughout her later years. Lance was most happy when spending time with his family. Whether at a large reunion in New Hampshire, a summer vacation on Cape Cod, or a holiday gathering, he cherished the quality time spent with those he loved. He relished in these events, sharing in the laughter and taking immense pride in the next generation. He delighted in the company of his nieces and nephews and their vibrant energy always brought him much happiness. In addition, Lance found great joy in the study of 19th-century stained glass and was a longtime member of the Charles J. Connick Stained Glass Foundation. Promoting the significance of the art was a lifelong pursuit. He also enjoyed hiking, watching old movies, cooking shows, and visiting historical sites. Lance is survived by his twin sister, Lynne Kasparian and her husband Jonathan Unger of Andover; his brother, Harry Alan Kasparian and his partner Dr. Mary-Ellen Taplin of Andover and Boston; and his cherished nieces and nephews: Melissa (Kasparian) Swergold and her husband Jason, and their children, Lydia, Emilia, and Nicholas, of New Canaan, CT; Amy Kasparian and her husband Joshua Loveall, and their son, Owen, of Melrose; and Michael Kasparian and his wife Pearl, and their children, Harris and Evelyn, of Melrose. He was predeceased by his niece, Julia Kasparian of Andover. Visiting Hours: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Calling Hours on Wednesday, April 1, from 5-8 PM, in the H.L Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., BRADFORD. Funeral Services will be private with Interment in Linwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lance's memory to a charity of one's choice. H.L. Please receive my most sincere condolences on the passing of your dear Lance. He contributed greatly to Salem as Chair of our Historic Commission-renaming Bridge Street Neck, saving an historic houses throughout Salem including two important historic homes owned by the Peabody Essex Museum, restoring the Conant statue on the Salem Common-to name only a few. He and I lived on Arbella Street for a few overlapping years renovating our homes, and dreaming of the early Collins Cove botanical gardens. He was an elegant and creative person with a solid sense of himself who was committed to his community here in Salem. It was an honor to know Lance.
