Lance Taylor Newell, 29, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on September 22, 2021.
Lance was born on March 15, 1992, in Denver, Colorado to Michelle Cupps (Gilpin) and Ted Newell. A fighter from the very beginning, Lance weighed just over 3 pounds at birth and always had a determined, courageous spirit. His spunk was evident to every person he knew, and he brought it with him everywhere - most notably, to sports competitions. Throughout his life, Lance participated in soccer, wrestling, baseball, and football. Sports was a family affair for Lance; he was coached at times by his father, he played t-ball with his sister, and he was cheered on at every game by his mother. On many of his teams, his jersey bore the Newell family number 16. Lance was a proud member of the 2007 Colorado High School State Football Championship team, the Grandview Wolves.
Lance was known for his compassionate, sensitive, and kind heart. In 2017, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the Metropolitan State University of Denver, with hopes of working in a field where he could advocate for and provide help to others. As a social worker and case manager, his passions included senior care, programs to support vulnerable youth, and other social service organizations. Lance was committed to human service work because he knew intimately of its importance and need. Lance shared his story of mental health and substance use recovery with many people, including his supports and connections within the AA community.
The pride and joy of his life was his family. Lance was the father of two sons and one daughter. He was partnered with his wife, Brandi Krantz, for seven years. Together, they loved to play outside, go on special trips, take photographs, and eat delicious meals. According to his loved ones, Lance is most remembered by his boisterous laughter, his silly jokes, and his willingness to do whatever it took to support his family.
Lance was preceded in death by his grandmother, Genevra "Jenny" Newell; his grandfather, Gary Gilpin; and his father-in-law, James Krantz.
He is survived by his wife, Brandi; his children, Kysyn, AnaLynah, and Dmitryus; his parents, Ted (Esperanza) and Michelle (Randy); and his sister, Heather Newell Oglesby (Chelsea). His extended family includes his brothers-in-law, Hunter Krantz and Michael Krantz (Cassidee); his mother-in-law, Dolores Krantz; his stepbrother, Nathan Cupps; his grandmother, Mary Lou Gilpin; his step-grandmother, Glenda Gilpin; and his step-grandfather, Garry Nollen; among many others. He will be deeply missed.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 30, 2021, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Arrangements made by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the online fundraiser in honor of Lance's family, including his wife and three children.
