Fire Controlman Aegis First Class Lance Shupe, 31, passed away as a result of a motorcycle accident, on Wednesday September 10, 2025, in Spring Grove, IL.

Lance was born on September 13, 1993, in Effingham, Illinois to Mark and Patricia (Jobe) Shupe. Survivors include his parents Mark and Patty, brother Connor (Shelby) Shupe, sister Casi (Matthew) Lytle, maternal grandparents Carol and Lee Ledeker and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents William and Louise Shupe.

As a Freedom Hall Facilitator, Training Team Member, and Recruit Division Commander at Recruit Training Command, Lance contributed significantly toward the unified mission of developing civilians into basically trained Sailors ready to serve in the United States Navy. He was a fine First-Class Petty Officer who will be sincerely missed by his shipmates and those with whom he came in contact. Lance was a well-liked and dedicated First Class Petty Officer who honored his country and the Navy by the work he did during his 13-year naval career. Through his tour of duty at Recruit Training Command, Lance impacted the lives of thousands of Recruits, as well as hundreds of staff members, through his leadership, training, mentorship, and love for the Navy and his shipmates. His distinct and positive personality and expertise made a dramatic impact on those around him. He quickly gained the friendship of peers and subordinates alike and had a reputation as one of the hardest working Petty Officers in the command.

Memorials can be made to the Veterans Memorial located at the Cumberland County Courthouse: P.O Box 480 Toledo, IL 62468. Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com
