Landon "Cap" Lawson Chapman, age 82, of Versailles, departed this world to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 11:53 a.m., at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. He was born November 16, 1942, in Lenore, West Virginia, a son of the late Wallace Jennings and Dochie Ann Chapman. Cap was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Erika S. (Bessler) Chapman for sixty years. He is also survived by his daughter, Patricia (James) Wasdyke of Versailles, Missouri; grandsons and granddaughters, Kristopher (Shey) Campa of St. Louis, Missouri, Eric (Janey) Campa of Fenton, Missouri, Nathaneal (Tori) Wright of Denver, Colorado, Natasha (Shaun) Simoneaux of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ashlei (Chase) Wasdyke Stapler of Huntsville, Alabama, Brandon Wasdyke of Huntsville, Alabama, Janice (Michael) Neave of Jacksonville, Florida and Porchea (Adil) Lhamri of Plant City, Florida; thirteen great-grandchildren; his brother, James L. Chapman of Michigan City, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters. Cap served over thirty years in the United States Army. He was a Vietnam veteran and served his country proudly. He also retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge and Past Master of numerous Lodges. He was a longtime resident of the Versailles and Gravois Mills area since 1990. He was the Pastor of the Lakeside Community Church until he was called Home to be with his Lord and Savior. Cap enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with his family, church family and talking about God. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, Saturday, September 27th, followed by masonic and funeral services at 12:00 Noon, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with James Wasdyke and Kristopher Campa officiating. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will follow in the Chapman Cemetery near Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to Lakeside Community Church. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
