L. Faye Scott, 91, Minot, formerly of Elgin, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026, surrounded by her family, at Trinity Homes in
Minot, North Dakota.
LaNora Faye (Varns) Olson Scott was born February 16, 1934, to Charles and Ethel (Schwartz) Varns half a mile south of the Mott Cardinal High School on her grandfather's farm near
Mott, North Dakota. She was raised and educated alongside her seven siblings: Daivid, Alice Marie, Vivian, Carroll, Charles, Chester, and Lorraine, in Mott until the family moved to Leith, North Dakota in 1947. Faye graduated from Leith High School in 1952.
Following graduation, Faye met Trygve Olson and they were married on August 18, 1952. Trygve and Faye lived on the family homestead located south of Elgin, North Dakota. They had the misfortune of losing their first child, Lois Ann, but on October 7, 1955, they welcomed Linda and Lynette followed on June 27, 1958. The family continued to live on the homestead until they built a home in Elgin and moved to town.
After moving to Elgin, Trygve worked with the Green Thumb Program and would help on the farm when needed. Faye worked at Wagners Super Value and Good Samaritan Home before she started Faye's Day Care. Since she was licensed for 16 children, their home was always busting at the seams with children. Some of the parents kept in touch with her over the years so she was able to keep up with "her daycare kids". The daycare center was Trygve and Faye's pride and joy!
After Trygve's death on May 7, 1989, Faye lived in Bismarck and Hazen for short periods of time and then went on to Colorado. She was employed at The Barn Store, a convenience store, when she met Merton Joseph Scott. They were married on December 28, 1995. Faye and Merton were ushers for the Colorado Rockies, a job they truly loved! They enjoyed taking trips together and camping with the love of their lives, Cocoa, their little chocolate poodle.
Faye and Merton moved to North Dakota to be nearer Faye's family on July 14, 2018. They made their home in Burlington, North Dakota where they lived in senior housing.
Merton passed away on November 22, 2020, during the Covid Pandemic. Following Merton's death, Faye moved to Surrey and lived with Gary and Linda Siewert until a brief hospital stay, and Faye was transferred to Trinity Homes in Minot. She resided there until her death.
Left to mourn Faye's life are her daughters Linda (Gary) Siewert and Lynette (David) Johnson, grandchildren Graig (Teresa) Siewert, Jessica Gibson, Ramsey (Larael) Johnson and Stuart (Alexandra) Johnson, great-grandchildren Emily Holter, Alexis Holter, Kali Siewert (Michael), Dylan Siewert, Alias Johnson and Elowen Johnson, step grandchildren Susan Moon and Karen Moon, step great-grandchildren Emily Hunt, Jameshia Holden, Jaden Serrano, Isabella Serrano, Trinity Walker and Lilyana Walker, step great-great-grandson Dauhnavon Groll, brother Chester (Peggy) Varns, and sisters-in-law Dorothy Schwartz and Caroline Monroe along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Lois Ann, husbands Trygve Olson and Merton Scott, stepdaughter Omalee Montoya an infant grandson, and siblings Daivid (Claire), Alice Marie, Vivian, Carroll, Charles and Lolly.
A graveside service will take place in the Spring 2026 at Bethesda Lutheran Church Cemetery, Leith, Grant County, North Dakota.
