Larris E. Slagle of Cleburne, Texas passed away on December 6, 2024. Larris was born on July 25, 1940 in Staples, Minnesota. She grew up in Breckenridge, Minnesota, the daughter of Larry and Iris (Olsen) Abbott. She graduated from Breckenridge High School and North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND. She then moved to Minneapolis and worked as a secretary at General Mills and later at the IRS in St. Paul.

Larris was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest went to school. She worked as a legal secretary at two law firms in Sioux City, Iowa for 11 years. She then went to work for the U.S. bankruptcy judge in Sioux City. She retired from that position in 2010 after 23 years. After wintering in Texas for several years, Larris and her husband Allen, decided to make Texas their permanent home in 2019.

She and Allen were among the founding members of Cornerstone Global Methodist Church in Cleburne. She was also a member of PEO International and Bible Study Fellowship. Her hobbies were knitting, sewing and quilting, especially making American Girl doll clothes for her granddaughters, neighbor girls, and fundraisers. She enjoyed getting together with her friends to make baby quilts for the Cleburne hospital.

Survivors include her husband Allen of Cleburne; daughter Susan (Greg) Beckwith of Red Wing, MN; son Joel (Anna) McElhany and their children James and Laura of Fort Worth, TX; stepdaughter Tammi (Roger) Adam and their children Halie (Drew) Munter and Marcus of Yankton, SD; stepdaughter Shelly (Dustin) Larsen of Yankton, SD; and stepdaughter Charesh (Mike) Lewin and their son Peyton of Merrill, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Karen Norris, and son-in-law Dustin Larsen.

Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Cornerstone Global Methodist Church of Cleburne and St. James Global Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa at a later date. Larris was a member of St. James for more than 50 years prior to moving to Texas.

Theme of service is I Corinthians 2:9

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived—--the things God has prepared for those who love Him.”
