Larry "Abby" Abernathy, 76, of Spring Lake, North Carolina, passed away on September 17, 2025. He was born on November 4, 1948, in Sanford, North Carolina, to the late JB Abernathy and Rosie Lee Abernathy.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of SP5 (T) E5. A true patriot, he carried the values of honor, service, and loyalty with him throughout his life.

Larry was known as a hard worker, a devoted father, and a man who loved his family and community deeply. He was an avid motorcyclist, a proud patron of his bike club, and found great joy on the open road. His kindness, generosity, and ability to make others feel welcome will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Alisha Green and her husband, Dr. Marcus Green of Brockport, NY; his son, Harley D. Abernathy and his wife, Alyson Witte of Greensboro, NC. Larry also leaves behind his grandson, Jonathan Abernathy and wife Ivy of Phoenix, AZ, and great-granddaughter, Haylee May Abernathy. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Abernathy Johnson of Sanford, NC.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Adcock Funeral Home and Crematory in Spring Lake. A graveside service with military honors will follow on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m at Buffalo Cemetery, Carthage St., Sanford, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,

501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
