Larry Aders Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home - Herrin on Nov. 26, 2025.
Larry Edward Aders, age 69, of Herrin, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at his home in Herrin.
He was born Thursday, August 23, 1956 in Huntingburg, Indiana, a son of Russell Edward and Beatrice L. (Werne) Aders.
Larry, a devoted servant and passionate chef, has left a lasting impact on the community he loved. He took great pride in his work, serving as a chef at various esteemed establishments, including the Archabbey Church in St. Meinrad, Indiana. A dedicated public servant, Larry also gave back to his community as a volunteer firefighter, always ready to lend a helping hand. When he wasn't cooking or serving, Larry could often be found on the golf course, enjoying the fresh air and camaraderie with friends. He was also an enthusiastic grandparent, lovingly playing "banker" with his grandchild and cheering on the Indiana University Basketball team. A quiet and reserved man, Larry was a man of few words, but his warm smile and gentle nature made him a beloved neighbor and friend. He cherished his daily walks, taking time to greet and chat with those he met along the way. Larry's love for life was also reflected in his fondness for Lifetime movies. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
He often shared his wisdom through his favorite quotes. He believed that "Being bored is an insult to oneself" and that "It's a good day because he was walking upright." These words reflected his outlook on life, one that was filled with gratitude, kindness, and appreciation for the simple things. Be reminded: "Don't take any wooden nickels."
He is survived by his son- Nathan Thomas (Lisa) Aders of Florence, Kentucky; daughter- Dr. Nina Kaye (Sterling) Koen of Herrin, Illinois; grandchildren- Izzy and Gabby Koen and Hazel, Harper, and Hudson Aders; brother- Gary (Debbie) Aders of Yuma, Arizona; sister- Paula (Jim) Peter of Jasper, Indiana; sister- Brenda (Mike) Gilliland of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister- Sandy (Mark) Kays of Huntingburg, Indiana; sister- Rose (Scott) Fischer of St. Meinrad, Indiana; brother- Terry (Linda) Aders of Rockville, Indiana; sister- Donna (Steve) McGinness of Evansville, Indiana; close aunt- Anna Mae Werne of St. Meinrad, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He is preceded in death by parents.
Final arrangements are pending and will be announced here as service details become available.
