Larry "Wendell" Akins, age 76, of Westmoreland, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. He was born March 3, 1949 to the late Rev. Haskell and Evelyn Brown Akins in Sumner County, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Todd Akins, his son-in-law, Mark Troutt; his brother, Harold Akins; his mother-in-law, Nadine Henson; and his father-in-law, B.Y. Henson.
He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Bonita Henson Akins; his two daughters, Lisa Troutt and Christy (Toby) Richardson; his son, Travis (Kimberly) Akins; and his grandchildren, Lane (Ally) Troutt, Chase (Bethany) Troutt, Todd Akins, Abigail Akins (Henry), Isabella Richardson and Amelia Richardson.
Mr. Akins was saved and a member of Providence General Baptist Church since August 1971 where he had remained a faithful member, deacon and trustee till his passing. He retired from Pirelli Armstrong Tire Company after many years of service. He was a life long farmer and a professional bird hunter. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them.
Funeral services for Mr. Akins will be conducted on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 2PM from Providence General Baptist Church with Bro. Phil Brown and Bro. Clayton Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Providence Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Travis Akins, Toby Richardson, Lane Troutt, Todd Akins, Chase Troutt and Henry Hinton. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, June 5th from 4PM till 8PM at Woodard Funeral Home; as well as on Friday, June 6th at Providence Church from 10AM till service time at 2PM.
The family has entrusted Woodard Funeral Home with the care of their loved one. "Serving you as we would like to be served."
