Iris Marie Akins

Iris Marie Akins, 79, passed away at home with her family on March 12, 2026. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on August 12, 1946, to her late parents, Lucille and Robert Taylor.

She was a woman of faith and a proud Catholic who carried her beliefs with grace throughout her life. She had a gentle spirit and a special love for animals, always showing kindness and compassion to every creature she encountered. Gifted in many ways, she took great joy in playing the piano and creating beautiful ceramics. Above all else, she was devoted to her family and always put them first, surrounding them with unwavering love and support. Those who knew her will forever remember her warm heart and the words she so often shared, "I love you more."

Iris is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Thomas Akins Sr.; brothers, Robert and Maurice Taylor; and sisters, Mary Lou Tatum and Laura "Betty" Wheat.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Heather Graham (Tyler), Jennifer Akins and Thomas J. Akins Jr.; grandchildren, Shane Flatt, Steve Swartz (Miranda), Aaron Akins (Brittany), Emily Akins, Mallory Akins and Josh Nichols; great grandchildren, Paisley, Payton, Parker, Dawson, Skye, and Piercen; brother, William Taylor (Rosie); and best friend, Susan Pereira (Bill).

Her funeral services will be provided by Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy. The visitation will take place on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be the next day, starting at 11:00 AM, and cremation will follow.
