Larry Allen, 74, of Indianola, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, at his home with his family at his side. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Sunday, Sept.24, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home with Randy Workman officiating. Burial will follow at Quinton Cemetery. Pallbearers are Tyler Hubbard, Wyatt Hubbard, Gabriel Hubbard, Tristen Hubbard, Aiden Hubbard, Chase Faber, Katelyn Faber, Payton Allen, Rydge Allen, and Ryker Allen. Honorary pallbearers are Dakota Thomas, Kent Allen, Terry Allen, and Oben Weeks.
Larry was born on Dec. 12, 1948 in Siloam Springs, Ark. to Raymond Claude and Barbara Jean (Quick) Allen. After graduating from high school, he graduated as Outstanding Student in the automotive program at Okmulgee Tech. He married Carolyn Jean Ford on July 28, 1973 and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Larry was primarily a rancher, and he also did some commercial fishing on Lake Eufaula; was a beekeeper, a fur trader, and operated a sawmill. He loved to hunt, fish, and trap. He was always working on something. He could fix anything from tractors to dozers to vehicles. His grandkids were his greatest reward and he spoiled them rotten along with teaching them how to garden and work hard. His grandchildren remained close to him up until the day of his passing. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Canadian.
Larry is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jean Allen; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda Hubbard and Greg, Kathy Faber and Charlie; 1 son, William Allen; grandchildren, Tyler Hubbard and wife Jordan, and their son, Augustus, Larry's only great grandchild, Wyatt Hubbard, Gabriel Hubbard, Tristen Hubbard, Aiden Hubbard, Chase Faber, Katelyn Faber, Payton Allen, Rydge Allen, and Ryker Allen; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Paula Ogden and Glen; 4 brothers, Darrell Allen and Dora, Terry Allen and Shelia, Kent Allen and Dee, Duane Allen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Don Allen, and 2 nephews and 2 great nieces.
