Larry Benge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Callaway-Allee Funeral Home on Jan. 30, 2026.
Larry Neil Benge, age 76, of Ratcliff passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026 at his home. Larry was born November 11, 1949 in Jacksonville, Texas to parents, Lewis Earle Benge and Francis Lucille Chancellor Benge. He was a Game Warden for 31 years before retiring. After his retirement he and his wife opened Pawn Plus. They sold the business and finally retired completely.

Larry loved the outdoors and applied to the Texas Game Warden Academy. He was one of twenty-five accepted into the academy in 1973. He first served in Newton County then transferred to Houston County in 1977 where he remained until his retirement. Larry loved every aspect of his job. It was with pride and honor that he served the State of Texas and the citizens of Houston County. When his son, Zak, transferred to Houston County, he was indeed a proud father! The birth of his grandchildren was another prideful moment and he enjoyed every minute being his family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Diane (Dee) Benge of Ratcliff, Texas; son, Zak Benge and wife, Seema of Ratcliff, Texas; grandchildren, Cody Benge of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Kaia "Kiki" Benge of Ratcliff, Texas; Koi Benge of Ratcliff, Texas; brother, Mike Benge and wife, Mary Kate of Kaufman, Texas; sister, Brenda Johnson and husband, Chris of Jacksonville, Texas; nieces and nephews, Clif Westbrook of Breckenridge, Texas, Brent Benge of Kaufman, Texas and Tanya Graves of Tyler, Texas; special friend, Ronnie Dunnahoe; also many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by parents, Lewis Earle and Lucille Benge.

Funeral services for Larry Neil Benge will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2026 at the Tabernacle of Praise in Kennard with Pastor Darryl Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.
