David Allyn Benge, born on January 2, 1970, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Gary and Kay (Berryman) Benge. David passed away unexpectedly at his home in Imperial, Nebraska, on February 1, 2026. He was a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, whose love for his family was evident in everything he did.
Growing up in Grant, Nebraska, David graduating from Grant High School and later enrolled in the Ford Mechanics program, laying the groundwork for a career that would see him become an integral part of the automotive community. He began his career as a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Benkelman before joining Imperial Country Ford. Through hard work and dedication, he rose through the ranks to become Service Manager, later expanding his experience with roles at NAPA and John Deere in parts and service. His passion for mechanics was mirrored in his many hobbies, as he found joy in tinkering in the garage and building model cars.
David’s personality shone brightly throughout his life; he was a loving and caring father who took immense pride in attending his daughters’ school functions and sporting events. A passionate fan of baseball, softball, and Husker volleyball. He created a lifetime of memories, marked by camping trips when the girls were younger and countless trips to the Rocky Mountains and Colorado Rockies games. These experiences were not just vacations but opportunities for family memories.
His spirit of patriotism ran deep, even though he never served in the military. David was proud of his country and remained deeply committed to it throughout his life.
David leaves behind his loving wife, Billie Jo of Imperial; his daughters, Brittanie (Spencer) Ross of Grant and Ashlie Rose Benge of Dallas and his treasured granddaughter, Aria Ross; his mother, Kay Benge of Grant; his sister Allison (Frank) Alfone of Steamboat Springs, CO; his brother Forrest (Amber) Benge of Alliance, and his mother-in-law Donna Vass of Big Springs. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Benge of Grant; his nephew, Blake Krueger of Sterling, CO, and father-in-law Orville Vass of Big Springs.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a memorial service scheduled for Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Imperial Berean Church, located at 1530 Broadway Street, Imperial, NE 69033 with Pastor, Matt Maxwell officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
