Larry Ernest Bluhm, 75, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023 due to complications from a long battle with cancer. Larry was born, February 8, 1948 to William and Marjorie (Beyer) Bluhm in Tacoma, Washington.
Larry grew up in Fife, Washington on the old Puyallup River Road. He had a happy childhood with fond memories of riding his bike and playing baseball with his siblings and neighborhood friends. They would pick blackberries and go hunting for night crawlers (worms) to sell for penny candy. In high school, he loved basketball and wrestling. He graduated from Fife High School in 1966.
After high school, Larry joined the Coast Guard (1967-1971) and completed two tours in Vietnam. He began his lifelong passion as an Ironworker in 1973 when he joined the same union as his father, Local 114 in Tacoma and later Local 86 in Seattle. Larry worked on numerous buildings throughout the pacific northwest- He was most proud of his work rebuilding the Pergola at Pioneer Square in Seattle. He retired in 2005.
Larry's hobbies and passions included spending time with his family, fishing, making improvements to his house and yard, vacations in Sekiu, music, building cigar box guitars, and searching for the perfect hot rod.
In 2004 he married his true love, Vicki. They shared 19 years together full of love and laughter. Larry's three children, Larry Jr, Jayson (Savanna), and Jeni were a source of much pride and joy. He has five grandchildren: Ashley (Nick), Jackson, Sam, Aria and Logan and four great grandchildren: Ellie, Nolan, Noah, and Evelyn. His family brought Larry immense love and pride. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and sister, Barbara Bigelow (Mike). Larry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marjorie, his brother Chuck and sister Marjorie.
A viewing will be held 3-4pm on Friday, April 14, 2023, and funeral service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 10AM at the Powers Funeral Home (320 W. Pioneer Ave, Puyallup WA, 98371) followed by an 11AM graveside service at Sumner Cemetery (12324 Valley Ave E, Puyallup, WA 98372.) Reception will follow (TBD).
