Larry T. Cannon passed away on May 29th, 2024 at the age of 77. Larry was raised in Philadelphia by his parents William and Teresa Cannon. Larry was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1965. He played varsity basketball, averaging as a senior 35 points a game earning All Public and Parade Magazine All- American honors. Upon graduation he attended LaSalle University where he was a three-year starter for the Explorers. He was a 2nd Team All- American his senior year, and led the team to a 23 – 1 record and the number 2 national ranking. Larry was then drafted by the Chicago Bulls (NBA, 5th overall), and the Miami Floridians (ABA). Larry chose to play for the Floridians in the ABA. He was then traded to the Denver Rockets. In the 1970 – 71 season Larry averaged 26.6 points per game for the Rockets and earned All – ABA 2nd team honors. Larry then played for the Indiana Pacers, and helped them win the 1972 ABA Championship. Larry then moved to the NBA playing a part of the 1973 – 74 season for the Philadelphia 76ers. Larry's career was then unfortunately cut short due to health issues, notably phlebitis in his legs.
Larry was elected to the Big 5 Hall of Fame in 1973, the inaugural class, the Pennsylvania Basketball Hall of Fame, and the La Salle Hall of Athletics in 1977. His number 20 jersey was retired by LaSalle in 2016, only the 5th player in the school's history to be so honored. After retiring from Professional Basketball Larry moved to Florida, and enjoyed golfing and times with family members there. He passed away at his home in Fort Myers.
Larry is survived by his children Norum Cannon and Emelys Cannon Ramirez Brito; his brothers William Cannon (Linda), Gregory Cannon, and Christopher Cannon; many nieces and nephews; and his ex-wife Jane Phillips. April 4, 2025

Unfortunately, I just found out today, April 2025, of the passing of my friend Larry. My sincere condolences to his daughter and son, and brother Bill (with Linda), and Greg, who I know. We played a lot of golf
here in Ft Myers since about 1990, when we met. His name came up because I was reminiscing about being at the Masters in 2001 with Larry and two other Kelly Greens GC friends, when I found out the sad news of his passing. Larry was an interesting guy, an exceptional athlete, and a
good friend and I wish him everlasting peace and comfort to his family.
God bless you, Slim.
