Larry Carnes Obituary

Larry Allan Carnes of Aledo, age 87, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Graveside services will be at Willow Springs Cemetery in Willow Park on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.

Larry was born in Stamford, Texas on June 11, 1938 to Leona Hinze and John Carnes. They later divorced, and Leona married the man that Larry called his Daddy, Arthur Rosenquist. Larry was an only child, but his cousin Milton Hinze was as close as a brother. He had many stories of the trouble those two could find.

Larry grew up a farmer’s son. When he was sixteen, times were hard. Arthur signed a consent giving Larry permission to go into the National Guard. After he turned eighteen, Larry joined the U.S. Army, where he served in Germany and the Middle East. He left the army in 1961 to marry the love of his life. On August 12, 1961, Larry married Judy Kay Goodpaster in the home of Judy’s aunt. They moved to Aledo in 1963, where they raised three kids.

Larry loved aviation. He had his dream job working at Southern Airways in the late 60s. They closed their plant at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells in 1973. From there he went to work at FMI where he was a machinist. Larry was on the Volunteer Fire Department in Aledo.

Larry loved God, his family, the Kansas City Chiefs, and animals. He loved his dogs, and would feed anything that wandered up to his place including deer and roadrunners. Larry was a very simple man.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy.

Larry is survived by his son, Craig Carnes; daughters, Lisa Mason and husband, Ward, and Tracey James and husband, Joedon; four grandchildren, Ryan Mason and wife, Diadem, Kristen Mason, Sarah Pickering and Logan, and Ashley Pickering and Aaron.
