Larry Clevenger Obituary
Larry Clevenger, 81, of Knoxville, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
Larry was born on June 6, 1942 in Galesburg. He was the son of Lawrence and Dena (Gregg) Clevenger. Larry married Monica Jones-Smith on July 3, 1981 and together they celebrated 41 years of marriage. Surviving Larry are his loving wife, Monica; his children, Kristie (Troy) Marquith of Galesburg, Tracy (Brad Hambsch) Brennan of Galesburg, Dena (Greg) Mummey of Dahinda, Josh Smith of Knoxville and Chad (Elizabeth) Clevenger of Knoxville; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Pamela (Jerry) Kimble of Sparland, and Gary (Dottie) Clevenger of East Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Bertis Carlson; sister, Sandra White and step-brother, Dick Carlson.
Larry attended ROVA and Knoxville Schools. He was a 1960 graduate of Knoxville High School. Larry grew up in the ROWVA, Knoxville areas and also spent a lot of time in East Galesburg. He worked as a pipefitter for Gates Manufacturing and later he worked for Carlson Trucking, mowed yards and would retire from the Knoxville School District as a bus driver for 16 years. Larry enjoyed woodworking, fishing, going dancing with Monica and riding his trike. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Larry served his community as a councilman and a member of the Pacific #66 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge. Most of all, Larry loved spending time with his family.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 8th, 2023 at the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville. Rev. Russ Collister will officiate. A Masonic Service will be conducted at the graveside by the Pacific #66 A.F. & A.M. Lodge. A celebration of life will follow graveside services from 1-3 PM at the Pacific #66 A.F. & A.M. Lodge, 149 North Public Square, Knoxville. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory have been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
