Larry Eugene Coy, age 77 of Battle Creek passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Monday, October 20, 2025. He was born in Dowagiac, Michigan on July 16, 1948 and was the son of Russell (Martha) Coy and Pauline (Clinton) Etter. Larry attended Hastings High School and the electrical engineering program at Ohio State University. A Purple Heart recipient, Larry faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1965 to 1970, serving in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. He retired from the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center on November 3, 2011, after more than 36 years with the Department of Defense.
Larry married the “Love of His Life”, Evelyn “Blondie” Nosker at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Battle Creek on December 3, 1983; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Gina (William) Matarazzo and Nicole (Kyle) Hankinson; four grandsons, Alex Bell, Conner Blunt, Spencer Blunt and Antoni Matarazzo; his sisters, Linda (Bob) Prell and Shirley Etter; and his cat, “Bella”. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don (Jeanette) Coy and his sister, Bonnie (Roger) Boyer.
A true animal lover, Larry also loved working on Jeeps and trucks, watching NASCAR, playing games, going out for his “two” beers and spending time with his family.
The family will receive friends 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 26th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where services to celebrate his life will be held 12:30 p.m., Monday, October 27th. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Calhoun County Red White and Blue Foundation, c/o The Battle Creek Community Foundation.
