Larry Edward "Cush" Cushman

1947 - 2026

Mr. Larry Edward "Cush" Cushman, Sr., age 79, of Augusta, Georgia passed away on March 27, 2026 at a local hospital.

A native of Augusta, Georgia, Mr. Cushman was born on March 10, 1947, the son of the late Edward and Mary Newman Cushman. Mr. Cushman was a fireman with the City of Augusta for many years following his military service in the United State Navy. Prior to retirement, "Cush" as he was known by all his friends, retired from the Fort Gordon Fire Department as Chief. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his son, Larry Edward Cushman, Jr., and by a daughter, Robin Burton.

Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Panowich. His sisters, Linda Young and brother-in-law Douglas, and Sherrill Jenkins. Five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Cushman will be conducted on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 2 p.m. from the Augusta Chapel of Platts Funeral Home, 721 Crawford Ave., Augusta, with Rev. Bob Gosey officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot of the West View Cemetery in Augusta.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 noon until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

The following gentlemen will serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday by 1:30 p.m. and they include members of the Steve Dent Sunday School Class, including Bill Knippenberg, Steve Dent, Tommy Mansfield, Larry Royal, Bill McClellan, and Duane "Mac" McIntosh. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Fort Gordon Fire Department.
