Larry D. Daniels, Sr, 89, of Hawkinsville, Ga. passed away peacefully on Thursday, August18, 2022 at Pinewood Manor Nursing Facility in Hawkinsville. Funeral Services will be held at 3p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Broad Street Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Waters and Rev. Blake Westbrook officiating. The family will visit with friends from 2p.m. to 2:45p.m. prior to the service at Broad Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Lowe Cemetery in Pulaski County.
Mr. Daniels was a native of Pulaski County and a member of the Broad Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was most recently the Transportation Supervisor for Pulaski County Board of Education for the last 30 years and was previously the Postmaster of the US Postal Service in Hawkinsville for 30 years. Serving as an active-duty sailor in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict, he retired from the Navy Reserve with 20 + years of service. He loved God, his family and his country.
Anyone that knew Larry spoke of his generosity and willingness to help others in need. He possessed a work ethic like no other. Larry could not sit idle and not make his mark in his cherished community. He refused to retire from the workforce. He knew he had a God given purpose to fulfill and he had a positive influence in someone's life every day. He loved working at the Bus Shop and training inexperienced drivers how to operate the school bus. He looked forward to attending the annual School Bus Driver conference in Jekyll Island. Larry loved gospel quartet music and old school country music. His love for singing began when his father and the four siblings would often gather around the piano and sing gospel music or church hymns. Later in his adult life his love of music and the church intertwined, he served as the Music Director at Midway Baptist Church. Eventually his membership moved to Broad Street Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and would fill in as needed as the Assistant Music Director during Church Services. Serving his Lord and Savior included volunteering at the Senior Center with his wife and leading Senior Activities.
When not serving his lord, spending time with family and friends or working at the Bus Shop, Larry would hear the North Georgia Mountains calling. He loved his mountain home and spent many days relaxing on his porch looking out into the Blue Ridge Mountains, breathing the crisp clean mountain air and appreciating all of God's creations. In his final years, he would occasionally take the time to enjoy a well-earned and deserving respite.
Preceded in Death by his wife, Betty Hill Daniels; Survivors include his three children; Daughter, Linda D. Moore (Richard Morris) of West Union, SC, Son, Larry Doyle Daniels, Jr. (Cindy) of Hawkinsville, Ga.; Daughter, Malia J.
