Lawrence "Larry" DeRousse, 82, of Herrin, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Nature Trail Health and Rehab in Mt. Vernon, IL.
Larry worked Head Cook at S.I.U. Carbondale for 10 years. He also worked at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Larry was a Vietnam Veteran retiring from the U. S. Navy after 20 yrs. of service.
Larry was born November 12, 1939 at Kaskaskia Island, Illinois to Louis and Margaret (Louvall) DeRousse.
Larry married Betty E. Jokerst on August 23, 1979 in Farmington, MO. She survives him in Herrin.
He is also survived by step children, Terry & Vicki Harger of Desoto, IL, John Anderson of DeSoto, IL, and Gina Lytle of Brownstown, IL; six grandchildren, Zachary Harger, McKenzie Keel and her husband Sean, Brianna Anderson, Samantha Brazier and her husband Bryce, Cameron Calloway, and Cordelia Lytle; two great grandchildren, Abigail Eastman and Benjamin Eastman; two sisters, Virginia Blythe and Margie Ann Welker; two sisters-in-law, Anna DeRousse and Betty DeRousse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; Donavon DeRousse, Gerald DeRousse, Louis DeRousse, David DeRousse, and Robert DeRousse; and three sisters, Yvonne Heberlie, Carol Johnson and Helen Basler.
Larry's wishes were to be cremated; no services are planned. Memorial donations may be made to a veteran's charity of the donor's choice.
