Jan Arthur Rieger

Jan Arthur Rieger, born December 18, 1942, left us January 23, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Jacobs Rieger and Arthur Rieger, and his brother, Dexter Rieger.

Jan brightened the lives of many at Centerstone CDS and Rendleman Group Home, where he enjoyed the company of many friends. He is survived by a circle of close friends who will miss his easygoing warmth and upbeat outlook. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Wendy Maddox.

A true car enthusiast, Jan reveled in speed and style, especially the Pontiac GTO, NASCAR, and MOPAR. He loved collecting model and small cars, each piece a small celebration of his automotive passion. He was always thoughtful of others, often reminding friends and family to "Watch your speed" with that signature twinkle in his eye.

Jan delighted in the little joys of life, including occasional purchases from QVC and the Home Shopping Network for the ladies in his life, and he was wonderful at giving compliments and lifting spirits with his kind words. Pancakes were a favorite, and he always kept a weather radio on, ever curious about what the day might bring.

An avid storyteller, Jan loved spinning tales and regaling friends with colorful memories-sometimes joking that on his 83rd birthday he was 200 years old, a playful nod to a life well lived.

Loved by everyone who met him, Jan had a gift for making people feel valued and heard, and he was never shy about sharing how much they were loved by him.

A graveside service will be held on February 18th at 10:00 AM at Herrin City Cemetery. A meal and gathering will follow at Rendleman Group Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centerstone in his memory. May his memory bring a smile to all who knew him.
