Marilyn "Marty" Rieger

Marilyn "Marty" Marchini Rieger, age 89, of Erie, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, February 6, 2026.

She was born in Erie on October 12, 1936 a daughter of the late Louis and Bernetta Heberle Marchini. She married Ronald Rieger, Jr. on June 8, 1957 and they had 57 wonderful years together.

Marilyn excelled in her career in banking for 25 years before retiring to spend time with her grandchildren. As a member of Our Lady of Peace Church for 60 years, she was a cantor and loved singing in the Our Lady of Peace choir. A cherished memory that she and dad shared was singing for the Pope in Italy as members of the Rome choir.

Mom was a leader for our cub scout and girl scout troops, volunteering at our school. She and dad were beloved Prep Band parents, and traveled with us to Vienna, Austria for an international music competition. As a Grama, Marilyn enjoyed time with her 8 grandchildren. Special memories include Disney, Niagara Falls, summers in Grama's pool and many trips to Waldameer. We could never leave without her favorite funnel cake.

Preceded in death by her husband Ronald, her sister Rita Altman, and her sister Phyllis Marchini.

Survived by her three children, Louis Rieger (Laurie), Linda Graves, and Debra Cooper Griffis (Scott), eight grandchildren: Robbie Sontheimer (Kelly), Krista Rieger, Collin, Jackson, and Elena Graves, Jordan (Rebekah), Joshua, and Joey Cooper. Also survived by sisters-in-law Carol Rieger, Mary Ellen Crane, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc 2502 Sassafras St. from 3 pm until 7 pm and are invited to the prayer service there Saturday morning at 9:15 am followed by the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church at 10 am.
