David Rieger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hampton Funeral Homes - Jackson on Jan. 26, 2026.
David Rieger, born November 15, 1937, to parents Arthur and Ann Rieger, passed away on January 21, 2026. David was known for his love of laughter and his gift for telling the best stories, which he shared generously with family and friends throughout his life.
He especially cherished time spent at Duck Lake outside Albion, Michigan, where many memorable moments were made. One of his greatest joys was watching his daughter Dana play basketball as she was growing up, proudly cheering her on from the stands. David also served in the Army Reserves and went on to build a career as a dental technician running a successful laboratory. Even in retirement, he kept himself busy working at the golf course, enjoying the camaraderie and staying active. David had a passion for model trains, classic cars, and NFL football-interests that reflected both his curiosity and enthusiasm for life.
He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Rieger and wives Sandy (Berarducci) Rieger and Patricia (Wells) Rieger. He is survived by his daughters Dana Rieger (Peg) and Jodie Willobee (Steve), and by his grandchildren Sidney, Chloe, and Chadwick. He is survived by his sister-in-law Joyce Rieger, niece Kimberly Tompson, and nephew David Rieger. He is also survived by his longtime partner Alice Meloy and her children: Meagan Meloy (Patrick) and granddaughter Clover, Matthew Meloy (Elexis), and grandsons Dylan and Landon, and Rebecca Hawkins (Robert) and grandsons Braxton and Monroe.
David will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the joy he brought to those around him. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Oaklawn Hospice. Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhomes.com to sign the guestbook and/or send a condolence to the family.
