Larry H. Evans, 90, of Griffin, was called home on Friday, October 31, 2025. His face was cradled in the hands of his "one and only," Cricket, and his beloved bride of 67 years, Marie, as he was embraced into the arms of his Heavenly Father.
He was joyfully reunited with his son, Randy Scot Evans; his two angel baby girls; his parents, Rev. W. H. and Mrs. Alice Belle Evans; and his sisters, Yona Jean Chew and Alice "Buck" Ricketson. What a reunion it must have been-so precious that all suffering was washed away. The lifelong friends and family who were waiting to welcome "Big Larry" through those pearly gates surely filled Heaven with laughter and joy.
Larry adored his family, and his face would light up the moment he saw them. His smile could brighten any room and make you feel truly special. He was endlessly proud of his loved ones-never missing an opportunity to brag on them or bestow a nickname that stuck for life.
He will remain in the hearts of those who loved him most: his bride, Marie Antoinette "Toni" Evans; his children, Larry Keith "Wawwy" Evans (Dianna), Dr. Charles Timothy "Ripp" Evans (Beth), Mikel Dean "Pickle" Evans, and Cristal Dawn "Cricket" Sailors (Scott); along with eight cherished grandchildren, two precious greatgrandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews he considered his own.
Anyone who knew Larry Henry Evans knows what a presence he was-even if you only knew him as the lawyer who drove that old red truck. Many remember his 5 a.m. wake-up calls to make sure you were up for Sunday School, his firm handshakes that left an impression, or those unforgettable "fish room talks" when you were in trouble with his kids.
He was known for his reputation in the courtroom, where he fought passionately for what he believed-sometimes so fiercely he found himself behind bars. To others, he was the Southern Baptist preacher's son filling the front pew at First Baptist Church with his young family under Dr. Morgan's voice. Later, he and his growing family continued to fill the pews at Mt. Gilead Church, and in later years at Second Baptist Church, where he wasn't shy about sharing his thoughts during Dr. David Hill's sermons.
However you knew him-whether as "Larry H. Evans, Attorney at Law," "LHE, The Great," "Mr. Evans," "Larry H. Evans of
Griffin, Georgia," "Big Larry," "Dad," "Daddy," "Uncle Larry," or "Grandad"-you knew his toughness was matched only by the size of his heart. If Larry loved you, you knew it, and that love will remain forever.
An intimate graveside service, led by his firstborn niece, Pamela "Lamapa" (Ricketson), Culverson was held on Monday, November 10, at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will announce details soon for a gathering-a time for all who loved Larry to come together, share memories, and celebrate the life of a man loved by so many.
A special thank-you to everyone at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, 1891 W. McIntosh Road, Griffin, for their care and guidance during this time.
