Larry J. Hamlet, 76, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2025 under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born in Clinton, Tennessee to the late Norval "Smokey" and Theda Howard Hamlet.
Mr. Hamlet was a veteran of the U.S. Navy before becoming a mechanic. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum in 2006 after 30 years of service.
Larry enjoyed raising a garden and even a small herd of cattle for a while. He would often relax by fishing and listening to his extensive music collection. Larry also enjoyed home improvement projects including building greenhouses and other additions to his home. He enjoyed welding and furniture restoration and was an avid follower of college football and UK basketball. Larry loved animals and cared for many throughout his life, in particular his beloved labrador, Pepper, who preceded him in death.
Larry was preceded in death by seven siblings, Anita Underwood, June Gravitz, Donna Durham, Vicki Peay, Wendall, James and Charles Hamlet.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Galloway Hamlet; his children, Christina Hamlet (Terry Campbell) of Lewisburg, PA and Michael Hamlet (Stacy) of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Reece Hamlet, Kate Hamlet and Julia Hamlet of Newark, DE; sisters, Doris Tomes of Owensboro and Linda Hicks of Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be Sunday, November 23rd from 1:00 until 4:00 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Military honors will be conducted at the end of visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heartford House, C/O HPC of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathen's Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.
