Larry Dean Hatlestad, 74, of Salem, Oregon, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on March 19, 1951, in Bremerton, Washington, to Elmer and Pauline Hatlestad. He grew up in a close-knit family and carried his strong work ethic and love for family throughout his life. Over the years, Larry made his home in several Washington communities, including Wapato and Everett, before eventually settling in Salem, Oregon.
On February 24, 1975, Larry married the love of his life, June Ortega, in Vernal, Utah. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family until June’s passing.
Larry worked for many years as a truck driver with Record Hauling in Yakima, WA, and was also a skilled diesel mechanic. His dedication, reliability, and expertise earned him the respect of his coworkers and the many friends he made along the way.
Outside of work, Larry found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved camping and fishing, spending time outdoors with those he loved most. He was a talented guitar player who enjoyed sharing music with family and friends. Larry also loved working on cars and occasionally trying his luck at the casino.
Larry’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Cubias, and his son, Larry R. Hatlestad. He was a beloved grandfather to 10 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, June; his parents, Elmer and Pauline; and several brothers and sisters.
Larry will be remembered for his hard work, generosity, sense of humor, and the love he shared with everyone who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
