David L. Hatlestad, age 77, of Withee, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 28, 2025 at his home under the tender care of Compassus Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee. The Rev. Phil Beukema will officiate. Please join the family from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church.
David was born on May 29, 1947, the son of Alfred and Alma (Hoffman) Hatlestad in Medford. He graduated from Owen-Withee High School and earned a degree in mechanics from Milwaukee Area Technical College. David was united in marriage to Charlotte Kell on September 15, 1968 in Withee. He worked as a mechanic at Withee Oil for 50 years and owned Hi-Way Grocery for 12 years.
David enjoyed woodworking, ice fishing with his sons and friends, hunting in his earlier years, watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events and gathering with family and friends. David was actively involved in the Owen-Withee Lions Club for many years, served on the Withee Village Board and was a Boy Scout Leader. In his younger years, he bowled and played in a softball league. Most importantly, he loved and cherished his family.
David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte; two children: Todd (Christie) Hatlestad and Tanya (Bill) Ovyn; a daughter-in-law, Jona Hatlestad; eight grandchildren: Jake (Ari) Ovyn, Haley (Charlie) Pogodzinski, Tegan Hatlestad, Kyan Hatlestad, Spencer Hatlestad (Natasha), Christopher (Sarah) Hatlestad, Ashley (Jesse) Jones and Andy (Andrea) Cherney; 11 great-grandchildren: Reagan Ovyn, Kendall, Kinsley and Lainey Pogodzinski, Zander and Jaxon Hatlestad, Della Rose Jones, Kipton, Carter and Cyleigh Cherney and Ronnie Hatlestad. He is further survived by three sisters and one brother: Kathryn Larson, Barbara (Roger) Kramer, Lois (Dallas) Wuethrich and James (Dee) Hatlestad; a sister-in-law, Nancy Hatlestad; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Troy; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Ovyn and a brother, Norman Hatlestad.
