Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch

Lawrence "Larry" William Jirik, Sr., 87, of Olive Branch, MS, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., with the mass to follow at 10:00 a.m., all at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Olive Branch on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The burial will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Fr. Jack Kurps will officiate the service.

Larry was born on March 23, 1938, in Verona, MO. He served our country honorably in the United States Air Force in Newfoundland. He earned his Associate's Degree from the State Technical Institute at Memphis. Larry then worked for 32 years as a field engineer for IBM. After his retirement, he worked at Selectron and Lexus of Memphis. Larry was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Olive Branch. He was married to his loving wife, Shirley, for 69 years and held her hand throughout it all. He loved taking care of her more than anything.

Larry was known as the family handyman, enjoyed woodworking, and loved to spend his time building things or just piddling around his home. He restored old cars and took special care of his '57 Chevy. He loved bringing his family to NASCAR races. Larry and his wife also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, which was eventually passed down to his son.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Straka Jirik, and his aunt who raised him, Elizabeth Jirik.

Larry is survived by his wife, Shirley Maxwell Jirik of Olive Branch; daughter, Sheryl Temple (Leonard) of Olive Branch; son, Larry Jirik, Jr. (Beth) of Mt. Juliet, TN; granddaughters, Sherilyn Huey (Matt) of Coppell, TX, and Shaunna Maness (Thomas) of Olive Branch; grandsons, Brian Jirik (Kathy) of Collierville, TN, Justin Jirik (Ashley) of Westmoreland, TN, and Christian Jirik of Mt. Juliet, TN; and great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Olivia, Leonard, Elizabeth, Gibson, and Grady.

In lieu of traditional flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children's Research Center (www.stjude.org).

In honor of Larry Jirik's service to our country, the flag of the United States Air Force will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch on the day of the service.
