Larry Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Frist Funeral Home, Inc. - Clinton on Mar. 9, 2026.
Larry Joseph Jones, 75 of Clinton, Indiana, died on March 5, 2026.

He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1950 to Matthew and Rose Jones. He later went on to join the Air Force, married Nancy Mayer and later went into Law Enforcement. During his time as the Sheriff of Vermillion County, Larry fought to build a new, safer jail. He firmly believed in the motto "Serve and Protect." He will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, building projects, and love for gardening. He was always passing this knowledge to his children and grandchildren, so they could do things for themselves. He proved that ideas and hard work can equal impressive and tangible results. He was known for his love of corvettes, metal detecting, and geo hunting. He had an amazing imagination and was always willing to try new things. It was this quality that made growing up with him as our father such an adventure. He kept us on our toes and will be known for his witty responses.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Matthew David Jones and Rose Jean Vocatore, his younger sister, April Joy Jones and his brother in-law, Michael Wood. He is survived by his children, Autumn Joy Jones-Hastings (Rob Hastings), Jeremy Daniel Jones (Mari Amber Stamper), Sarah Renee Miller (Michael Miller), Cory Joseph Jones.

Grandchildren, Robyn Hastings, Ashlee Wiltermood (Jones), Brandon Hastings, Harley Hastings, Cody Miller, Chloie Jones, Avery Miller, Matthew Jones, Harper Jones and his Great Grandchildren Hailey Norman, Willow Norman, and Kash Norman. He is also survived by his sister, Priscilla Wood (Taylor Wood and Michelle Chadwick), his last living uncle, Jim Jones, and numerous beloved cousins.

To honor his wishes, there will be no funeral services or visitation. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later time for close family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the VA or State Parks. Our family would like to thank the Danville IL VA Palliative Care Unit for their extraordinary efforts and care during his stay.
