Larry Duane Kappers

Larry Duane Kappers, age 85, of Spring Valley died peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester.

Larry was born on December 10, 1940 in Greenleafton, MN, the son of Edwin "Shorty" and Marian [Elfrink] Kappers. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1959. After school, Larry went to work with his father at Kappers Construction Company.

On November 3, 1962, Larry married Marilyn Elaine Springer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester. They were blessed with three children, Jeff, Dan and Jacki. They raised their family in Spring Valley, where they continued to live until they moved into Memory Care in Rochester in recent years.

In 1986, after over 25 years in the road construction business, Larry sold Kappers Construction Company and retired…for maybe two weeks or so. Then he started Kappers Fabricating, Inc. with his two sons, Jeff and Dan. KFI continues to operate in Spring Valley. Larry and Marilyn enjoyed collecting antiques for their home, cooking with their friends in their gourmet club, traveling in their motorhome and riding their Harley. They spent several winters in Port Aransas, TX at a RV Resort with close friends, where Larry went fishing on the Gulf most mornings. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends meant the world to him…

Larry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn, son Jeff and his children, Jaedon [Lindsey] Kappers and Ariana Didion, son Dan [Jill] and their children Nicholas [Shauna Mayer] Kappers, Autumn [Carter] Brandt and Nathan Kappers, daughter Jacki [Steve] Faulhaber and their children Brayde Faulhaber, Logen Faulhaber, Karsen Faulhaber and Kassi Faulhaber, Great Grandchildren Harlow and Harrison Brandt, Larry's sister Sharon Lowe and brother-in-law Don Gehrke.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, sister Arlys, brother-in-laws Butch King and Roger Lowe, mother-in-law Helen Springer and eleven of Marilyn's siblings and their spouses.

A funeral service for Larry will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 AM in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester with Rev. Carol Shaffer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Spring Valley.

Larry's family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to all of the wonderful caregivers at both the Waters on Mayowood and Cottagewood Senior Communities for the love and amazing care that Larry received while in their care.
