Larry R. Katterheinrich
September 24, 1937 - March 1, 2025
Larry Richard "Dick" Katterheinrich, 87, of Sylvania, OH, passed away on March 1, 2025. Born on September 24, 1937, in St. Mary's, Ohio, Larry graduated from St. Mary's Memorial High School in 1955. He later attended the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, earning a certificate in insurance sales. His career in the insurance industry spanned decades, beginning with The Hartford Insurance Company in the late 1950s. His work required frequent relocations, taking him and his family from Ohio to the West Coast and back to the Midwest. In 1976, he decided to settle in Toledo, Ohio, where he became a partner at Senn-Martineau Insurance Agency. Later in his career, he also worked for Cavalear Insurance and the Hylant Group. In 1957, Larry (known as "Dick" to close family) married Joanne Boehmer, also from St. Marys. They had four children together, Nanette, David, Deborah, and Dennis. Dick and Joanne were married for 25 years, after which time they divorced. In 1985, Larry married Carol Vercellotti. Larry and Carol were together until she passed away in 2018.
Larry was a social person who enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He loved going out to eat at his favorite restaurants, Mayberry Diner, The Seafood, and The Cantina, and took pleasure in trips to Shipshewana while keeping in touch with friends there. A dedicated sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Oakland Raiders. He also liked working on crossword puzzles and playing pool at the Moose Lodge. Those who knew him could always recognize his vehicle around town by its distinctive license plate displaying his birthdate: "Sept 24." One of his favorite sayings was: "Don't worry about things you can't control."
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Dale B. Katterheinrich; his wife, Carol Bregar Katterheinrich; his daughter, Deborah Johnson; his son, Dennis Katterheinrich; and his grandson, Ricky Bearer. He is survived by his children, Nanette McClung and David Katterheinrich; stepdaughter, Tana (Mark) Ohneck; granddaughters, Danielle (Josh) Scott, Denise (Mitch) Maraugha, Rebecca McClung, Courtney (Lucas) Apel, and Alli (Ryan) Murphy; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family only. Larry's final resting place will be at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania. Charitable donations may be made in Larry's honor to the Heinzerling Memorial Foundation, the
American Cancer Society, the ALS Association, or ALS TDI.
