Larry Lester Landtroop, 79, of Duncanville passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Saturday, May 24th. He was born August 28th 1945 in Ranger, Texas. Larry grew up in Dallas. During his early years he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout and graduated from Sunset High School in 1963. He went on to attend Texas A&M and was a member of the Corps of Cadets, class of 1967 and commissioned into the US Air Force upon graduation. He went on to pilot training and served as a forward air controller in Vietnam, earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses during his tour. Larry would serve his country as an active duty flight instructor, as a member of the Texas Air National Guard piloting C-130's and would finish his service earning Colonel as a guard liaison to the 8th Air Force. Over the course of his decorated career, he deployed to Iraq as part of Desert Storm and Bosnia as part of Operation Joint Endeavor. Upon retirement, he continued to share his passion for flying through a 20-year career as a pilot instructor with American Airlines. At home, Larry was a business owner of Triple L Machine and PJ's Café of Irving. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 1218 of Irving. A long-time enthusiast of vintage cars, he was proud of his rebuilt Ford Model-A and loved driving in the annual Irving 4th of July parade with his grandkids. He was an active member of the Silver Eagles and enjoyed the fellowship of his USAF retiree family. He loved the Lord and was a faithful church attendee his whole life. He was preceded in death by his Father, Capt. Raymond L. Landtroop, US Army Air Force, Ret., Step-mother Helen Landtroop and Mother Corinne McClarty. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Gayle Landtroop, son Ryan Landtroop and granddaughter Abigayle, and son Jason Landtroop, wife Christy and their children Calleigh and Kirkland.
