Larry Lawter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eggers Funeral Home & Crematory-Chesnee on Sep. 19, 2025.
Larry James Lawter, 78, of Chesnee, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on June 8, 1947, a son of the late Grace Dotson Lawter Jolley and James William Lawter. He was a member of Ben Avon United Methodist Church. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Pictor during the Vietnam War. After his service he dedicated more than 30 years to Michelin Tire as an inspector before beginning a second career as a licensed real estate agent with Better Homes and Garden Realty where he worked for over a decade. He was a car enthusiast and had a passion for restoring cars, especially his prized 1972 red Camaro. He enjoyed life and traveling with his wife, particularly to the islands. Though he had no children of his own, he was loved immensely by his nieces and nephews who affectionately called him "Uncle "Lala".

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Rita E. Watts-Lawter; sisters, Gail Revisky, and Debra Lawter McDowell, and husband Johnny; brother, Danny William Lawter; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and his cherished nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Wayne Revisky, and Wendell Bright.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in the Chapel of Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee with Rev. Edward Enlow officiating.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Lawter, Josh Revisky, Chad McDowell, Will Graham, Eddie Lloyd, and Frankie Holden. Members of Carolina Classic Car Club are invited to sit together in honor of Larry and are encouraged to bring their classic cars in remembrance of Larry's lifelong love for them.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.

A crypt side service with military honors will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Spartanburg.
