Larry McRae was born on March 26, 1946 in Laurinburg, North
Carolina to the late Nathaniel McRae and Emma Kelly McRae. Larry was
married to Polly McMillan on June 26, 2012. He departed this life after a brief
illness on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Mayfair Manor in Lexington, KY. Larry
was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry grew up in Laurinburg, NC and received his early education from
the Scotland County Public School System. He attended the local community
college. Larry entered the US Army and left with the position of Sgt. Major.
He worked as a fireman in Charlotte, NC. This was a job that he really enjoyed.
He later moved to Brooklyn, NY and worked for the US Postal service and
Central Bank. Larry joined the Army Reserve as a Recruiter and moved to
Lexington, KY. He held this position for several years.
Later, he became employed with the Toyota Engineering &
Manufacturing Center in Georgetown, KY. Larry, was promoted to a Team
Leader with this company because his managers noticed how dedicated he was
to his job. He was the employee who was at work and only absent with planned
leave. His team knew that Larry would work diligently with them, so that they
would become successful as well as the company. He retired from this job after
working over 20 years.
The last job that Larry held was with the school system as a bus driver.
This was the job that connected him with young children. He taught them to
be respectful and the importance of education.
Larry has been a long time and dedicated member of Pilgrim Baptist
Church. He would often tell others about his love for God. He gave all the credit
to God for making him the Christian that he was in life. He taught Sunday
School for several years and later received his calling to become a Deacon. He
was installed as a Deacon on June 25, 2022. The members and Pastor knew
that Larry was trustworthy, honest, and dependable. He made it known to
others how much he loved his wife, family, and friends. Larry was a kind man
and always helped others. He often drove cancer patients for their treatments
and took others to their medical appointments.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by four siblings,
James McRae, Andrew McRae, Peco McKoy, and Ophelia Hayes.
Larry leaves to cherish precious memories; Polly McMillan McRae,
his devoted wife and two daughters, Teresa McCall (Albert), NC and Jasmine
McRae, GA. He is survived by three grandchildren: Dalesa Dudley, Taylor
McKoy (KaRon) and Carmello McRae. He also leaves four ladies, who looked
to him for wise decisions like a father; Tiffany Majors', TX, Trevia Smith,
TX, Hattie Small, KY, and Earline Jones, KY. Larry is also survived by one
brother, Lee Colon McRae (Cula), Laurinburg, NC, two sisters, Vernal Cooper,
Mint Hill, NC and Brenda McRae, Laurinburg, NC. Further surviving family
