May 26, 1951 - Jan 13, 2026
Larry Eugene Nelson, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 26, 1951 to his parents, William "Bill" Nelson and Martha Merrill Nelson. Larry was a 1969 graduate of Tipton High School. Soon after graduating, Larry began working with the Railroad, and continued until he retired in 2011.
Larry was a simple guy; easygoing and dependable for his loved ones. Family always came first to Larry! He was famous for his one-liners and he never missed an opportunity to make others laugh with his quick, sarcastic wit. In all areas of life Larry appreciated quality and believed in doing things the right way.
Larry loved music and passed that appreciation on to his children. He was also an avid collector of baseball memorabilia. Larry did enjoy watching IU Basketball and Colts Football, but baseball was his favorite. Through the years, Larry took his kids and grandkids to many professional baseball games. He of course also loved watching them play ball on their teams. He never missed a game or activity that they were involved in. Later in life, Larry had the privilege of becoming a great grandfather, and that was a job that brought him pure joy!
Larry was precious to his family! He will be remembered for his humor, his honesty, and the quiet way he brought people together and made them feel loved and supported.
Those left to carry on Larry's legacy of love are his children, Jason (Laurie) Nelson, Amanda (JR) Tuttle; grandchildren, Sierra Nelson (Nick Holler), Brendyn (Katie) Nelson, Camden Nelson (Taylor Vautaw), Korbin Nelson; great granddaughter, Irelyn Nelson; a great grandson (due to arrive in May); sister-in-law, Vickie Nelson; aunt, Rosa Cleary; uncle, Ed Merrill; and nephews, Nathan (Kristina) Nelson and David Nelson.
Larry was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Bill and Martha Nelson; and brother, Mike Nelson.
A celebration of life service will be held in the Spring.
