LARRY ARNOLD NOWELL, SR.
HEADLAND… Larry Arnold Nowell, Sr., a resident of Headland, passed away early Monday morning, December 9, 2024, at his home. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. and Reverend Greg Nowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Headland First Baptist Church Youth Fund, 301 East Church Street, Headland, Alabama 36345, or Brown’s Cross Roads Masonic Lodge #529 at PO Box 33, Headland, AL 36345 or Headland Fire and Rescue at 456 East Main Street, Headland.
Larry was born in Headland to the late Otho Nowell and Rubye Starling Nowell. He lived most of his life in Headland, except for eight years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force. He later joined the Alabama Air National Guard serving an additional 28 years for a total of 36 years of military service. He was also a member of the Brown’s Cross Road Masonic Lodge #529. He worked at Ft. Rucker for eight years as an avionics repairman. He was a paramedic and a founding member of the Headland Volunteer Rescue Squad. He worked with the Houston County Sheriff’s Department as a paramedic inside the county jail for eight years. He also owned and operated The Grill Outlet in Dothan. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Headland.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Corrine Wood, Anna Lois Trieber, and Rotha Gailbreath; his brothers, Otis, Durwood, and Buford Nowell.
Larry is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Eugenia Parrish Nowell; his daughter, Rhonda Chase of Headland; his sons, Arnie Nowell (Becky) of Headland, and Reverend Greg Nowell (Sherri) of Pace, FL; his sister, Wynell Douglas of Headland; his grandchildren, Savannah Chase of Dothan, Claire and Cole, both of Pace, FL, Tanner and Tori, both of Headland, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and the many healthcare professionals supporting him through the years.
Serving as active pallbearers will be members of the Brown’s Cross Roads Masonic Lodge.
