Larry D. Parnell

Larry Dale Parnell, a steadfast pillar of love and dedication, passed away peacefully at his home in Portageville, MO, on September 29, 2025. Born on February 6, 1944, to the late Atrina (Neal) and Lonnie Parnell in Tennessee. Larry's life was a testament to the values of hard work, family, and faith. Larry, known affectionately to all as simply Uncle Larry or L.D. shared nearly 63 years of unwavering companionship with his beloved wife, Doris (Carden) Parnell. Together, they built a life filled with joy and laughter, centered around their daughter Stacy and her husband Mike Lowery, their adored grandchildren Rachel and Seth, and the playful presence of their five grand dogs, Luna, Stormi, Cotton, Winnie, and Yeti. Larry's love extended to a host of nieces and nephews, each of whom he loved deeply and impacted significantly throughout his life. Professionally, Larry was known for his years of dedicated service as a truck driver, a career that showcased his commitment to hard work. Upon retirement, he embraced the role of full-time grandfather with the same vigor, taking immense pride in caring for his grandchildren and grand dogs, a responsibility he cherished above all else. Larry's Christian values were the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and providing strength and comfort throughout his journey. He lived his faith through his actions, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. Never one to sit idle, Larry was a man in constant motion, his hands always busy tending to his yard or nurturing his garden. His work ethic was unparalleled, and even in the face of illness, his primary concern was whether he would be able to continue the work he loved. His dedication to his family knew no bounds. Larry's presence at Seth's football games was a constant, from middle school through college, never missing a single game. His support was a source of strength and pride for Seth, culminating in the unforgettable moment when Larry walked him down the football field at his last college game. Similarly, he was an unwavering supporter of Rachel's pursuits, once driving hours just to ensure she could attend the premiere of the "New Moon" DVD release- standing by her side in line as they waited excitedly for the midnight release. Larry's ability to fix anything was legendary; if a solution didn't present itself, he would simply figure it out. His resourcefulness and skill were matched only by his loving and selfless nature. He was the quintessential handyman, but more importantly, he was the best dad and pa anyone could hope for. Larry Dale Parnell leaves behind a legacy of love, selflessness, and dedication. His memory will continue to inspire and guide his family and all who knew him. He was truly one of a kind, and though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and the many lives he touched.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the H.S. Smith Funeral Chapel in Caruthersville, Missouri. Interment to follow at Portageville Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m.
