Gary was born on June 8, 1952 in Hayti, Missouri.

He departed this life at his home in Hayti on September 16, 2025 at the age of 73.

He was the son of the late Isom Hilburn, Jr. and Mary Virginia Robinson Hilburn.

Gary attended the Caruthersville Schools, graduating in the High School Class of 1970.

Following graduation, he joined the National Guard where he served for many years and also continued in the Reserves. Gary then joined the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy and remained with them until his health declined. Along with being a long-time deputy he also served as the County DARE officer, Transport officer and Shooting Range officer.

During his career he also was engaged in police work, graduating from the Police Academy and also received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. Gary served the Cities of Caruthersville, Hayti and Steele.

When not involved in law enforcement he enjoyed fishing, raising horses, target shooting, cooking out and family gatherings.

Gary always held the Lord close to his heart. Some of his favorite memories were from his time ministering to children about his Savior, Jesus Christ, at the C-Star Center in Kennett, Missouri.
