He was a member of Bridgeport Free Will Baptist Church and was a veteran having served in the United States Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Helen Ponder, and daughter, Callie Virginia Ponder.
He is survived by his wife Debra Ponder of Newport; son, Joe (Melissa) Ponder of Parrottsville; daughter, Tammy (Tyson) Palmer of Parrottsville; brother, Brian (Carrie) Lee of Corryton; sister, Linda (John) Lemming, of Stockbridge, GA; special brother, Danny (Betty) Coffey of Newport grandchildren, Jaydyn and Johanah Ponder, Makayla and Saydee Palmer; nephew and nieces, Joseph and Callie Lemming, Alicia, Jennifer and Kristin; also several other great nieces, great nephew; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 pm -7 pm Wednesday, November 5, 2025, with the funeral service following at 7:00 pm in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tim Carson and Rev. Willie Winters officiating.
The family will gather at Manes Funeral Home at 9:30 am, Thursday, November 6, 2025 to go in procession to Union Cemetery for the 10:00 am Graveside service with Military Honors.
