Larry Joseph Pries, 88, of Bloomington MN, passed away peacefully on October 13th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He courageously fought Parkinson's for over 20 years! Proceeded in death by his parents, Selden and Virgina (Kimm) and sister Patricia and brother-in-law Bill Prokop. Larry was born on May 28,1936 in Minneapolis MN. He graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1955 and studied History at the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Larry dedicated his life to his family and his country. Upon his1959 graduation, he entered the Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island. He was then stationed in Yokosuka Japan and served as the Communications Officer on the U.S.S Terrell County (LST-1157). Larry retired from active duty as a Lieutenant Commander in 1964 and proudly served 20 years in the Navy Reserve. He then built a career in the finance industry, owning a financial planning business for many years.
Larry married his high school sweetheart, Sandra (nee Findsen) on May 21, 1960. Married for 64 years, their lives centered around their four children; Todd (Barb), Scott (Marie), Brad and Dawn Hakanson. Larry's greatest joy was being a loving and supportive grandfather to his 11 grandchildren!
Larry and Sandy were founding members of St. Edwards Catholic church and were active members for years. Larry touched the lives of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and resilience that will forever be remembered.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held on Thursday, October 31st at St. Edwards Catholic church, Bloomington. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m., luncheon to follow. Larry will be laid to rest with full military honors, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Larry's name to the University of Minnesota's, Parkinson's Disease Research in Neurology Fund: https://makingagift.umn.edu/give/yourgift.html?&cart=20959
