Larry Sexton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cox Funeral Home - Walnut Ridge on Mar. 30, 2026.
Larry Alvin Sexton, 81, of Black Rock, passed from this life on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. He was born on August 8, 1944, in Saffell to the late Earnest and Ruby (Martz) Sexton. He was united in marriage to Jackie Doyle on February 11, 1967, at the Oak Hill General Baptist Church.

After graduating high school, Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division, the "Screaming Eagles," stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Following his military service, he attended Southern Baptist University and Arkansas State University. He later worked as a substitute agriculture teacher and an 8th-grade English teacher, and also served as a bus driver at the Sloan-Hendrix School District. In addition, he was employed with the Farmers Home Administration. A hardworking and independent man, Larry was a self-employed cattle farmer with a lifelong love of horses, a passion he carried from childhood. Larry was known as a determined man with perseverance and strength, always pushing forward. He kept going until the very end. Larry was a man of God who loved the Lord and served as a deacon at Oak Hill General Baptist Church in earlier years. It was a special blessing for him to see his grandchildren baptized. Though he was known for having thick skin, those who knew him best saw his soft heart. Larry deeply loved his wife, children, daughter-in-law, and grandsons.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, David O'Neal Sexton, proud Navy veteran, William Edward Sexton, proud Air Force veteran, and Ernest Birtch Sexton, Jr.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Jackie (Doyle) Sexton of the home; his children, Cynthia Marie Sexton Proctor of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and Scott Alvin Sexton (Kimberly) of Black Rock; his grandsons, Solon Proctor, Walker Sexton (Jorgie), Colton Sexton, and Jackson Sexton.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Annieville, with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 A.M. Bro. Jerry Clements and Bro. Joey Richmond will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hope Cemetery in Imboden under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge. Military honors will be rendered.

Honored to be pallbearers, members of the United States military and veterans, honoring Larry's dedicated service.

Honorary pallbearers are Solon Proctor, Walker Sexton, Colton Sexton, Jackson Sexton, Josh Brand, Daniel Bates, and David King.
