Larry Shimer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Funeral Homes - Bubb Chapel on Jan. 5, 2026.
Larry K. Shimer, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Granger, Indiana.

Born October 1,1938 to the late John and Vesta (Abbott) Shimer, Larry spent the early part of his life in southeastern Illinois surrounded by his older siblings.

After graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1956, Larry married his high school sweetheart, Donna (Neitzke) Shimer, on June 26, 1960, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hemlock, Michigan. Their enduring love lasted until Donna's passing on March 28, 2014. The happy couple settled on the north side of Indianapolis where Larry worked for Weihe Engineers as a land surveyor. Larry was an active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church offering his time and talents for many years as an elder and as church president.

Larry was always ready for an adventure and loved to jump in the car for long and short trips. He and Donna dearly loved exploring national and state parks, catching up with friends near and far, and seeing what was around the next corner of the road. If the road was long and smooth and the sun was up, Larry was always ready to go.

Larry is survived by his beloved daughters, Kelly (Chad) Shimer-Roggow and Amy (Michael) Lange; his grandchildren, William (Abbie) Roggow, Allison Roggow, Rachel Roggow, Emily Lange, and Megan Lange. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and loved that they share his love of adventure.

A much-loved youngest sibling, Larry was preceded in death by his siblings Mary Perkins, Robert Shimer, Vera Harris, Dorthe Wilkin, and Gerald Shimer.

A private burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Washington Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN. Palmer Funeral Home ~ Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN 46545 is honored to be assisting the family with the arrangements.
