Kathleen Ann Shimer

Kathleen Ann Shimer (nee Caro), 70, passed away on January 26, 2026 at her home in Binghamton, New York.

Kathie was born at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, New York, on September 15, 1955 to Edward and Betty Caro.

She attended St. James School until 8th grade and graduated from Johnson City High School in 1973.

She started work at the New York State Department of Parole in 1982 as a Dictation Machine Transcriptionist and retired in 2015 with the title of Office Assistant 1.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Thomas Shimer; her parents Edward and Betty Caro; her grandparents Noah and Gertrude Williams and John and Helen Caro.

She is survived by her children; Sean Shimer, Stefan Shimer, and Vanessa Root; her sister Rose Marie Caro, her brothers Edward Caro and his wife Brenda and, Eric Caro and his wife Marjorie. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was an avid reader (favorite authors being Stephen King and John Grisham). She enjoyed bowling, taking care of her flowers, as well as feeding the birds in the backyard and cats in the neighborhood.

She will be deeply missed by both family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
