Larry R. Straight

Larry R. Straight, 71, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away September 19, 2021, at Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Illinois.
Larry was born on October 11, 1949, in Hanover, IL, son of Charles Straight and Bette (Hancock) Kallsted. Larry attended school in Hanover and graduated from Freeport High School in 1967. He was employed by the Savanna Army Depot as a Civil Engineer for over 30 years and also enjoyed working for the Army Corps of Engineers, Chestnut Mountain Resort, and his mother's tavern, "Bette Mom's," before fully retiring. Larry served as a volunteer for the Hanover Fire Department and as a school board appointee for the Hanover School District.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cathy; his son Toby (Nancy) Straight of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; his daughter Dani (Jason) Smallwood of Elizabeth, IL; his grandchildren Alex Straight, Zack Straight, and Emma Smallwood. Larry also had a special spot in his heart for his sisters-in-law and his many wonderful nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Charles, James, and Robert.
The family would like to extend a deep appreciation for Dr. Crist and Medical Associates Clinic, MercyOne of Dubuque, Midwest Medical Center, the Elizabeth Ambulance, and the Hanover Fire Department for their exceptional care and expertise.
A memorial service will be held at Law Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, IL on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. with a luncheon for family and friends immediately following at the Hanover VFW. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
