Larry Tharp Obituary

Larry E. Tharp, 83, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Brown County Health and Living in Nashville.

He was born August 10, 1942, in Shelbyville, the son of Garnet Edwin and Roberta (Roberts) Tharp. On June 28, 1961, he married Karen Kay Moon, and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2022.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Angela Wessler and husband, Mike, of Fishers; and grandson, Garrick Wessler; and several cousins and their families also survive.

In addition to Karen, Larry was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kaye Flanagan; and son-in-law, David Flanagan.

He graduated in 1960 from Shelbyville High School.

Larry was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was a police officer for the City of Shelbyville for over 40 years, retiring in 2010.

Larry was also a member of Shelby Masonic Lodge No. 28 F&AM and the Fraternal Order of Police, where he served as treasurer.

He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, camping and boating.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 pm, Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Gravesides services will be at 3 pm, on Sunday at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelbyville FOP, 1237 N. Knightstown Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
