Larry Thurmond, Sr. Obituary
Larry Samuel Thurmond, Sr., 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Commerce, GA on October 13, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. He was a devoted husband and father, as well as a tireless farmer, businessman, and veteran of the Navy.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Georgia Thurmond; daughter, Cheryl Thurmond; son, Larry Samuel Thurmond, Jr.; grandchildren, Larry Thurmond (Claire), John Thurmond (Meghan), and Ted Thurmond (Kayla); and great-grandchildren, Jane, and Waylon Thurmond. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda, Cathy, Diane, Cynthia, and Anne.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Minish; father, Floyd Thurmond; and brother, Dennis Minish.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at Ivie Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Curtis Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Grey Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 12 PM until the funeral hour Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Victory Baptist Church, Jefferson, GA and Shining Light Christian Academy Jefferson, GA.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, GA, is in charge of the arrangements.
